The Vendée has a sunshine record to challenge the Riviera with mile after mile of glorious, gently shelving, sandy beaches, washed by the warm Atlantic waves. This is the land of sea, sun and sand, perfect for children and ideal for water-sports.

Eating out in Vendée

While you are in the Vendée, try delicious mussel’s fresh from the bouchots, the mussel farms that can be seen right across the Vendée coastline. Local Muscadet & Gros Plant wines, refreshingly dry and zesty whites that are the perfect accompaniment to seafood.

The most unusual regional speciality is the ‘tourteau fromager’. This is a round savoury cake made with goat’s cheese. From being baked in a very hot oven, it has a black crust and a deliciously light, creamy texture.
